Time to think

I was on the plane, coming back from seeing Vicki, and I had some time to kill. I had a DVD to watch on my TiBook, but thought I'd try and get some work done first.

I'd been meaning to add a feature to my software, which has been a long time in coming. I've been working on this new version for a long damn time. Too long. Why? A lack of time. Since I started working I have had very little time to work on my own software. When I do have time I find I don't have the energy, or the motivation.

On the plane I was able to dig in, and get the feature worked out. It felt really good. It's a simple but really important feature. It lays the ground work for some more important, but easily implemented, features that I have on my to-do list.

(Oh, yeah. Ron, I have a good framework for that application you wanted me to write... I'll whip up something to show you... provided I find the time...)

The small bit of coding I did on the plane reminded me of just how much I like coding. It just seems like when you work on stuff you don't like all day, it's just really hard to get motivated to do the things you do like. I just need to remember how enjoyable it can be.
