Addendum
I just saw on CNN that in Iraq they are saying that the Columbia tragedy is 'God's retribution'. I can't wait till we bomb the fuck out of those basards.

It's time to scour the earth of those bastards. All of Allah's children need to be done away with. Unless they're willing to lay down their damned jihads and get along with the rest of the world. >:-(

WTF!!!!

Jesus Christ.. why don't you guys all join the Republican party while you wave your flag?? You all know better than to resort to this xenophobic bs. With all the crap our goverment has been doing overseas for the past 10 years how can you blame anyone for hating Americans. What happend today is a tragedy. But the real tragedy is to see my friends lower themselves like this. (And no.. I am not being sarcastic). Maybe our government should go after the real human rights violators of the planet instead of some punk ass country that just happens to have the most oil. But then again.. what would liberating a truely oppressed 3rd world country do for us when we can all have cheap gas for our SUV's instead??

That's right....we should all just go sit in our hippie pads meditating while that so called oppressed 3rd world country uses our own technology, aircrafts and people to kill our family and friends and co-workers. I love the fact that I get to go to work every day wondering if one of those poor oppressed people are going to be there to hold me hostage, with who knows what type of weapon, threatening to hurt me or possibly kill me. Get over it, it's not just about the f'n oil.
Posted by: vicki at February 2, 2003 8:55 PM
actually, it is about the oil. iraq is one of the largest producers of oil in the world. one of the strongest voters in opec, too. without a dictator so opposed to US foreign policy, big oil companies based in the US and western europe could pillage the hell out of those fields with little fear of repercussion.
george w. also has a nasty tendency to use the presidency, blatantly, to fulfill a personal agenda. "he tried to kill my daddy," "i am growing impatient with saddam hussein," etc. this will be a war for oil and a fulfilment of personal vendettas. it is useless.
also, i don't sit in my "hippie pad" while "meditating." i've been trained by one of the most lethal militaries in all the world to kill folks without being seen. and you know what? kill or be killed was a part of my job that i readily accepted. being taken hostage is a risk of your job. you chose it. suck it up.

gosh Ron- that was a bit harsh...
Posted by: bren at February 3, 2003 11:05 AM
Well.. I didn't write that Bren. But I can't say I disagree with Jonn. I think I will need to make my feelings clear on my own weblog. My statements were not ment to attack anyone in our blog community on a personal level, and if it was taken as such. My apologies.
Read my weblog later today if you care.

I was referring to your first comment silly. I also do agree with John on Bush's tendency to use the presidency to avenge his father. But I think I have a tendency to agree more with Vicki that it's not all just about the oil... I will look forward to reading your blog later ron..:)

There's valid points on both sides...that's why there's this situation altogether. If it was cut and dry, action would have been taken already.
Posted by: Linda at February 3, 2003 4:39 PM
Any truly intelligent American will likely NOT debate that our government meddles a lot in the affairs of the rest of the world when they really need to spend more time worrying about affairs at home. That aside, too many problems stem from the Middle East, and if left to their own devices, they declare war on each other and thousands of innocents die. They have already declared war on us by their actions, and this demands action from us.
And I agree with John that it's also a LOT about the oil. It all comes down to the Middle East having it, and America being too dependent on it. Bush is an oil man. I think it bugs him that such a hated enemy holds something so precious to him. And I also agree that Bush is using these events to wage a personal vendetta against Saddam, and his fanatacism frightens me.
And yet, nothing would please me more than to see Saddam overthrown and a new order brought to the Middle East. Especially for the women of that part of the world.

Just my $0.02,
I wouldn't consider Iraq to be a punk ass country. They had the 4th largest army in the world during the Gulf War (well, at the start of it). And anyone who is willing to use chemical weapons, as they have in the past, has to be considered a serious issue. They still haven't accounted for thousands of weapons they admitted to building. On the other hand, I don't trust George Dubya one bit. There isn't one ulterior motive, there's plenty to choose from.

Just remembered something,
I own an SUV and paid $1.73 a gallon today!!!

Whoa- somebody took my comment, which was made solely to one individual, way to personnally! Actions speak louder than words, and in my puny opinion, anyone who has been in the military backs up their talk with their actions. I tend to hold in a higher regard the opinions of someone who has actually been involved in something that has helped to form those opinions. What I am ticked-off about is someone whom I haven't seen or heard of doing anything to back up their talk and opinions, except to rant and rave on stage, yet vehemently chastises his friends for doing the exact same thing in voicing their opinions, just because they differ from his own. Oh, and because i'm still going to work and not contemplating putting in my notice, I guess i'm way ahead of the game, and am sucking it up, and will continue to do so.

so uh, how bout them kings?
Posted by: Lewis at February 4, 2003 3:33 PM
Isn't this where somebody usually screams, "Play H-Bomb!"
Posted by: Linda at February 4, 2003 5:41 PM
Gee Vicki, my original statement was towards Ed, Lysa, and Freddie. My comments were a rebut of dissapointment towards their almost "redneck" reactions. Do I think they are rednecks? No. But fuck it, they were angry and venting....so was I. You threw your hat into the ring..and now you seem upset with me when I never "attacked" or said anything harsh to you in the first place or in rebuttal. If you read my last weblog entry nowhere did I attack any of our weblog community or chastise them for thier views. I soley stated my opinions and that's it. You've only met me once.To devalue my opinions for not being in the military is as foolish as me discounting your musical taste cause you have not been in a band. I didn't fall off the turnip truck and take a college course in "Bleeding Heart 101". Ask the crew here..I despise liberals types as well and dont get me started on the peace punks. Ed, Lare and I can go on about them for way too long.
Thing is, no one should take any of this personnaly (look above and see my apology a few days ago). I respect you for the fact that you board a plane to monitor and enforce passenger safety almost daily. Your job makes you more of a potential hero ( a word being too overused right now..) than the Space Shuttle crew ever was.
Maybe this has gone way too far based on hot heads and misunderstanding and maybe it should stop..I think we can all agree on that...
