Faith
There's a post here that sums up my feelings on faith. Over the weekend at my sisters a discussion started up about God and other religious stuff. I just bit my tongue, tuned it out and started working out an algorithm to a problem in a program I'm working on in my head.
It irritates me to no end that discussions of matters of faith are useless precisely because the parties who have 'faith' are not open to any other alternatives.

Growing up around religious people has led me to believe a few things. Most people of faith are totally fine with differing opinions. But you wouldn't know it because they never come off as "religious" people. It's always some fired up crusader speaking for all "Christians" who's offended by anything left of far right. The rise of fundamentalism is a bit shocking to me. Even with my Catholic upbringing, I'm floored by fundimentalists an their irrational, cold hearted outlook.

I agree with you Lare. I also feel that a statement that was made is very hypocritical.

And I don't mean a statement from Lare

I often use a line that my high school anthropology teacher used to say: "My God is more intellegent than yours." I don't believe God said some magic words and poof, there was creation. I think God created microscopic lifeforms that evolved -- just as the scientists have found. Working in a religious school, teachers are always nervous about the whole creationism/evolution topic. I tell them that evolution is a proven fact and we need to teach it. Teach creationism too, and let the kids decide which way to believe.
I never did quite get the whole fundamentalist thing...

Comical how a guy who relates the fact that he blocked out the religious discussion and started working out an algorithm in his head finishes the post by accusing others of "faith" not being open to other alternatives.
Oh the irony...
