I was driving down to OC from Studio City today. As I crawled down the 101 through Hollywood someone crossing an overpass caught me eye. I don't know why exactly. Maybe it was just seeing movement, or the distinct all black figure against the gray/blue afternoon sky.
This person was thin, dressed in tight black jeans and black leather jacket with something on the back in faded white, a band name or logo perhaps. Long straight black hair down to their lower back. Strutting across the bridge: a figure that possessed a sense of personal coolness. You could just feel that this person though they were the most badass person, ever. I couldn't tell if this person was male or female, and it really didn't matter. Either way, they though they were hot shit.
To me this sight summed up Hollywood and, to some degree, Los Angeles in general: attitude and appearance. Form over substance.
I laughed to myself and crawled slowly through the traffic, on into the sunset.
