Colin McRae, the first Briton to win the World Rally Championship (WRC) in 1995, was known for his cavalier and fearless approach to driving. In a 20-year career he took part in 146 World Championship rallies, winning 25, a record when he set it in 2002.
Many know his name through the Codemasters series of rally games for PC, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PSP, PS3, Game Boy Advance, Xbox, Xbox360, and N-Gage.
He died when the helicopter he had been piloting crashed in Lanarkshire, just outside his home. Police confirmed the next day that McRae, his five year old son Johnny, and two family friends, Graeme Duncan and Johnny's six year old friend Ben Porcelli, died in the crash.
